Why Feed pawTree Puppy Food?

Start by asking yourself… How important is health in your puppy’s life?At Crow Woods Homestead health is the number one priority when it comes to raising a litter of puppies! There are two major factors that drastically influence the long term health of your puppy: genetics and nutrition. We strive to blend the best features of two carefully selected parents to produce puppies with superior health, and nourish them with a pet food containing only the best ingredients to offer you a pet who is capable of reaching their full potential!  Providing your puppy with a high quality diet from the start means helping them grow into a healthy young dog.

The Importance of Ingredients

The events and experiences that take place in the first 16 weeks of a puppy’s life can have a major effect of their future! This is why we take such care in ensuring that each puppy has the best possible start.  A puppy begins tasting puppy food around the age of four weeks.  Did you know that a puppy can grow 5-10% of its own weight weekly before it is 8 weeks of age?  With such a rapid growth rate it is essential that their dietary and nutritional needs are met! With PawTree puppies have ample proteins and fats to support their muscle and soft tissue growth, high levels of calcium to fortify their young bone structure, and properly proportioned levels of Vitamins, Omega and Amino Acids for superior skin and coat health. Nutrients play a key role in supporting your puppy’s physical and mental development which is why we feed PawTree to our puppies.  PawTree’s Real Chicken and Sweet Potato Recipe is our food of choice when it comes to feeding a high quality kibble! With real organic Chicken as their number one ingredient we know our puppies are consuming a wholesome meal in every dish!

Immune System and Brain Development

Did you know that the diet a puppy consumes in their first 24 months can effect their entire physical and physiological future? PawTree contains Antioxidants to support immune health and work with your puppy’s internal defense system against diseases and viruses.  With healthy amounts of DHA for brain health and development you can rest assured that your puppy has the best start in their early experiences with hard food.

How Much Should I Feed my Puppy?

Puppies under 6 months of age should eat at least 2 times a day to keep their energy and sugar rates at a stable and healthy level.  At Crow Woods Homestead we feel that it is important for puppies to learn that sharing their food is a safe and positive experience.  Allowing brothers and sisters to nibble out of the same pan helps prevent future anxiety, aggression, and poor eating habits associated with inhaling food to prevent others from eating/taking it away. This is why our litters are fed as a group.  With this concept even the smallest puppy in the litter knows that they will never experience a food insecurity.  They can approach the dish with confidence and receive the proper nutrition without being anxious. While this is a wonderful way to reinforce calm assertive behavior in puppies, it is difficult to describe the current eating schedule of each puppy.  The chart below will help provide an idea of how much food you should offer your puppy.  When you take your puppy home they will be used to a twice daily diet which they participated in with their siblings, but you could soon begin feeding your puppy on a basis adapted to your schedule. This will not only help you bond with your puppy at feeding time, it will help you predict when your puppy will need to use the facilities!

Help! My Puppy Won’t Eat!

It is not uncommon for a recently adopted puppy to decline food.  In most cases you are your puppy’s first experience being away from their mother, litter mates, and everything familiar.  It often takes them 2 – 12 days to fully adjust to the new sights and sounds of your home.  Sometimes a puppy will be too excited or distracted to eat… In most cases this is simply a part of their adjustment period and will resolve in the first 48 hours. Don’t worry! Your puppy knows when they are hungry and they will let you know if they want to eat.  Continue offering your puppy kibble at mealtimes and always offer your puppy a supply of water that is cool, fresh, and clean! Sometimes mixing a small amount of water with their food to moisten it can make eating a meal more appetizing and palatable.
